Police have named an 89 year old man who died after a car crashed into the water at Southwold Harbor on Friday.

He has been named as 89 year old Philip Charles Evans from Wangford near Beccles.

The vehicle has now been recovered from the harbor at Southwold and a diving team was called in from the Metropolitan Police.

A crane has to be used to get the vehicle out of the water.

The body of the man was found inside and at the moment police believe he was the only occupant at the time of the crash.

All the doors of the vehicle were secure and it's not thought there was anyone else in the car at the time it went into the harbour.

An investigation is underway into the incident but there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances at this stage.

It is being reported that the car crashed through the railings around the harbor before ending up in the sea.
