Work is now underway to get Sizewell B power station back on line.

The reactor at Sizewell B power station automatically shutdown on Friday night, after an electrical fault developed on the conventional side of the plant. This meant that Turbines 1 and 2 at the site came offline (stopped generating electricity) at 8.15pm on Friday (2 March, 2012).

Work is now underway to discover the precise cause of the fault and return the station to service.

Sizewell B Station Director, Jim Crawford said: "This brings to an end a sequence of 1,210 days since our last unplanned automatic shutdown. However, the response of the staff on duty on Friday night, and over the weekend, has been exemplary. They worked with skill and professionalism to ensure the reactor shutdown safely and put all the procedures in place to allow us to begin recovery work to get the station back on line as soon as possible."
