The family of a homeless man who died after being attacked in Brighton say they're "utterly devastated."
54 year old Andrew O’Connell from Kent was seriously assaulted at Royal Pavilion Gardens just before midnight on Tuesday.
His family have issued the following statement:
“Andrew O’Connell was a family man who was loved by many. He was a kind, intelligent man with a free spirit who loved to travel. As a family we are utterly devastated, hurt and angry that he has been taken so cruelly from us. We ask that our privacy is respected at this time.”
A man's been charged with his murder and is due in court next week.
Unemployed Sergio Lemori, who's 32 and of no fixed address, was arrested nearby in Church Street the following evening.
He's set for a hearing at Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday.
