Paedophile Sentenced

A pensioner from Lewes who carried out a series of sex attacks on children 50 years ago has been jailed.

William Baldock, 69, from Mill Road, abused his four victims between 1959 and 1979.

Det Con Sean Stapley who investigated the case praised the courage of Baldock's victims in coming forward. He said: "The bravery of the victims has been overwhelming and I thank them all for coming forward.

"For them to come to court with dignity after all these years has been amazing. We would not have achieved this outcome without them."

Lewes Crown Court heard Baldock deliberatley targetted and preyed on vulnerable children in the Crowborough area and offered them sweets, money and lifts in his van before abusing them.

DC Stapley added; "The successful conclusion of this case highlights we will investigate matters fully, regardless of how long ago the offences occurred.

"Anyone who has been a victim of child abuse but has been afraid to come forward is encouraged to contact the police on 0845 6070999. They will be dealt with sensitively and professionally by fully trained officers."
