Sarah Killer Beaten Up

Roy Whiting, the man who kidnapped Sarah Payne, 8, from outside her grandparents' home in West Sussex, has been attacked by a fellow inmate.

The 52-year-old paedophile suffered eye injuries during the assault in Wakefield Prison yesterday morning.

He was taken to the prison hospital for treatment but his injuries are not believed to be serious.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: "A prisoner at HMP Wakefield was assaulted this morning and received an eye injury.

"HMP Wakefield manages violent and dangerous prisoners every day and events such as this are rare. The bravery and speedy response of staff ensured that this incident was dealt with swiftly and effectively.''

Whiting was sentenced to life after being found guilty of kidnapping Sarah Payne, murdering her and then leaving her body in a field near Pulborough.

It is not the first time he has been attacked in prison. In 2002 another inmate slashed him with a razor.
