Three men and a boy, questioned over the death of a cyclist on St Leonards seafront on New Year's Day, have been released on bail.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, was hit by a Ford Focus car on the A259 at Grand Parade at about 4am.

Sussex police say the car continued for a short distance before stopping further along the road. A number of men were then seen to run away.

The victim, a local man who has yet to be publicly named by police, was declared dead at the scene, near Warrior Square.

Three men, one aged 33 and two aged 24, were arrested along with a 17-year-old boy, all on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Two of the suspects, the 33-year-old, of Bexhill-on-Sea, and the 24-year-old, of Hastings, were also held on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

The second 24-year-old, also from Bexhill-on-Sea, was detained also on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.
