On Air Now
Heart Breakfast with JK and Kelly Brook 6:30am - 10am
Heart's been looking around a demonstration eco home that we could be seeing in Bicester.
Everything in the demonstration home has been made from recycled materials or can be recycled and is open to the public for the next two years.
The timber frame has been made from wood from sustainable forests and is ten times more air-tight than normal homes.
Five thousand of these home are planned for north west Bicester. The planning application has been submitted to Cherwell District Council.
There won't be any need for radiators of heaters. There's a heat recovery system will pipe out the warm air and heat the incoming cooler air.
A meter will show how much energy you're using in real time. There are also 5 solar panels on the roof that feed into the national grid - saving you money on your electricity bills.
The demonstration house shows all the inner workings of this carbon neutral home. In the real houses all the pipes will be hidden away.
A grey water system will allow rain and bath water to be collected, stored underground and used for things like flushing the toilet.
All the appliances like the dishwasher, cooker and washing machine are low energy, as are the LED lights.
