Volunteers are needed to make sure everything runs smoothly when the torch is in town.

If you missed out on being a torch bearer, you can still be involved.

Relay stewards are needed to help assist the safe passage of the torch through Reading on the 10th and 11th of July.

Marian Livingston, Lead Councillor for Culture and Sport, said:

"This is a wonderful opportunity to be involved in a momentous occasion.

"It is amazing that Reading has been chosen to host the Olympic Torch overnight and I am sure that residents will come out in force to watch this historic event.

"If you would like to help please get in touch through the Cultural Partnership."

In order to take part people must register at The Cultural Partnership and be able to commit to a one hour introduction workshop on either Saturday 21 or Saturday 28 April at the Town Hall 3B's, attend a one hour final brief on Sunday 8th July and commit some time on 10th July and/or 11th July 2012.

Training in stewarding, first aid and disability and equality awareness is also being offered to lead stewards.

Stewards are also needed in Bicester, Kirtlington and Kidlington as it goes through Cherwell.
