First Glimpse of Tree of Light

28 June 2012, 06:00

We've had our first glimpse if what the Tree of Light will look like ahead of it taking centre stage as part of the Olympic celebrations in Oxford in the summer.

It's 1 of 4 projects celebrating the local community to have been given £1.2 million funding by the Legacy Trust UK.

At the heart of the project is a massive sculpture of a tree that will be lit up with LED lights powered by cyclists and rowers. Around 1500 people are thought to be taking part.

Tree of LightThe production will feature an explosion of music, dance, light and theatre - and a preview will be part of the Torch Relay evening celebrations in Oxford on 9 July - with the finale at Stonor Park in Henley on July 21.

Work on the tree is well underway and it should start going up in South Park at the end of June ahead of Oxford's torch event.
