Extra police patrols taking place after 11-year-girl assaulted near a school in Newbury


It happened around 3.30 on Friday afternoon along Love Lane when she was approached by a man in his 40's as she walked  near Trinity School.

Thames Valley Police is appealing for information after an assault in Newbury today (22/4).

The victim, an eleven-year-old girl, was walking along Love Lane at around 3.30pm from Trinity School towards Shaw-Cum-Donnington Primary School when she was approached from behind by a white man in his 40s. He was described as “scruffy”.

Investigating officer, Det Con Snezhanna Lennon of Force CID based at Newbury Police Station, said: “This was a frightening experience for the victim.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at this time and witnessed this incident or saw anything suspicious between 3 and 4pm today to contact police on 101 quoting URN 916 (22/4)

“Extra patrols from the neighbourhood policing team are in the area. I would like to reassure the community that we are conducting a thorough investigation to find out what happened.

“If anyone has any concerns please speak to one of our officers or contact TVP on 101.”
