An 80-year-old man has been jailed for 9 years for sex offences in Warwickshire the 70s and 80s.
Robert Ellis from Selston in Nottinghamshire was found guilty of 8 indecent assault while he was living in Atherstone.
He was also found not guilty of two counts of indecent assault and three counts of rape.
Police Staff Investigator Alan Butler investigated the case. He said:
"The nature of these offences can have an incredibly damaging effect on the victim and I am hopeful that today's sentence gives the victim, who was a child at the time of the offences, some form of closure.
"All sexual offences are taken very seriously by Warwickshire Police irrespective of when they took place and will be thoroughly investigated.
"I would like to praise the victim for the courage she showed in coming forward and reporting these offences to the authorities. I hope that her strength encourages other victims to come forward, access the support available and report offences to the police.
The victim in this case provided a statement to the court. She said:
"I would like to state I made this statement and reported these matters not just for me but for all survivors of childhood sexual abuse which has a physical and emotional impact for the rest of your life. Thank you to the police staff investigator Alan Butler for his support throughout and Louise my ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor)."
"The judge has helped me by showing all that I am believed and the justice system deals with such offences appropriately."
