There were massive problems on the M6 in Birmingham last night (Monday) after three horses escaped onto the motroway.

Queues of up to two miles were reported between junctions 4A and 5 after it happened just before 8pm.

With the help of the central motorway police group they were eventually escorted to a nearby field.

A vet was called to the scene to attend to the three horses and foal.

CMPG tweeted: "Full closure both ways M6 at J5 due to 3 horses in the road. First time I've reported that in Birmingham!

"3 horses and a foal now safely in a field and we will get M'way running as soon as. Thanks for showing patience during this delay."

The Highways Agency also reported: "All lanes are now open on #M6, between J4A and J5 in both directions. The horses are now safely off the HA network. Thanks to @CMPG."
