Detectives investigating the deaths of two people at a house in Walsall have confirmed they are treating it as a murder and suicide.
The husband and wife, who were separated, have not yet been formally identified, but are believed to be David and Hayley Stringer.
Police were called to the address on Hollemeadow Avenue, Blakenall, at 3.50am on Saturday 10 May following a call from the ambulance service.
A 19-year-old man arrested in connection with their deaths has been released without charge and has been of important assistance to the investigation team.
Det Insp Justin Spanner, from Force CID, said: "Hayley suffered multiple stab injuries and David died from a single stab wound. At this stage we strongly believe that this is a murder/suicide.
"While we are still to establish the exact circumstances of what happened on Saturday morning, at this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.”
Three children - girls aged 11, eight and seven - who were sleeping in the house at the time of the emergency call have now been informed of the incident and are being cared for by family.
Specialist family liaison officers are supporting the families of both of the deceased during this difficult time.
Anyone with information which may aid the police investigation should call detectives on 101. People who don’t want to speak with officers directly should contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 who will pass on the information.
