A woman's died and two men are fighting for their lives after a police chase ended in a two-car crash in Birmingham.
West Midlands Police say officers began pursuing a black Audi A3 they believed to be stolen shortly before 8.30pm on Sunday - however it failed to stop and smashed into a Volkswagen Golf on Kingstanding Road moments later - leaving a 20-year-old woman dead.
The 22-year-old driver of the Golf is in a critical condition in hospital along with a 21-year-old occupant of the Audi.
The other four passengers in the A3 - aged between 17 and 20 - have been arrested on suspicion of burglary after it emerged the vehicle had been stolen.
The four were also taken to hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.
Sergeant Alan Wood, from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a deeply shocking incident in which a young woman has lost her life.
"Our thoughts are with her family and friends after receiving such tragic news.
"We are making swift progress with our investigation. We have spoken to witnesses at the scene and we are examining CCTV, but we would still appeal to anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to us to get in touch."
Officers have referred the incident to the force's Professional Standards Department and the Independent Office for Police Conduct, and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
