Supporting Lives, Building Community: Shared Lives and Shared Days by Wiltshire Council
Wiltshire Council’s Shared Lives and Shared Days programme offers a compassionate, personalised alternative to traditional care services for adults who need support to live confidently and independently within their community. At its heart, the initiative matches adults with care or support needs with specially approved carers who open their homes and lives to help people thrive in a welcoming family-like environment.
The Shared Lives scheme supports a wide range of adults — from those living with disabilities or mental health needs, to older residents and people transitioning from hospital or residential care. Participants can receive long-term care, short-term breaks, respite support or ‘Home from Hospital’ arrangements, all designed to enhance quality of life, build confidence and foster meaningful connections.
For those who prefer daytime support without overnight stays, the Shared Days programme offers tailored activities and engagement that help individuals make the most of their day while staying rooted in the local community. Carers are carefully matched and supported by Wiltshire Council’s dedicated team, receiving competitive compensation and ongoing guidance to ensure positive outcomes for everyone involved.
Shared Lives and Shared Days celebrate independence, dignity and community inclusion — connecting people with supportive carers, enriching everyday life, and building stronger, more inclusive communities across Wiltshire.
