Swindon: Police Appeal After Serious Sex Assault

Police are appealing for witnesses after an 18 year woman was sexually assaulted in Swindon town centre.

The incident happened between midnight and 1:15am on Sunday 3rd May in Granville Street car park.

The offender is described as a male in his 30s with dark skin and black hair.

Detective Sergeant Gareth Kitchener said: “This was a serious attack on a lone female and it has understandably left her extremely distressed.

“A robust police investigation has been launched and we have a dedicated team of officers working on the case.

“I am urging anyone who has information on this incident to contact police immediately. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who was in the area of Swindon town centre between midnight and 1.15am this morning and may have seen or heard anything suspicious that may be connected to the incident.

"We believe this to be an isolated incident, however, we would urge members of the public to be vigilant and mindful of their personal safety."

A 37-year-old man from Swindon was arrested on suspicion of rape. He has been released on police bail.
