Kids get a flavour for the World Cup!

School children on the Wirral are getting a taste for the countries England play against.

Wirral Council's Metro Catering Services, who provide the school meals service across the borough are giving children the chance to taste the food from the countries England play against in the World Cup which starts today (11th)

The themed days will take place on Friday 11th, Friday 18th and Wednesday 23rd June to coincide with the USA, Algeria and Slovenia games respectively.

The USA-themed menu features burgers, southern-style chicken, hash browns, barbecue baked beans, corn on the cob and cookies for dessert. Algerian spiced lamb meatballs with North African minted salad and cous cous features on the Algerian menu, along with savory spiced mince with sweet potato chunks.

For the Slovenia game, the menu will be traditional English in flavour with roast dinner or sausage and mash, garden peas, carrots and a dessert of rice pudding or jelly and ice cream.

Graham Rossiter, the Director of Metro told Heart: "We thought it was an ideal opportunity to jump on the back of the world cup.

"It embraces healthy lifestyles for the kids because it's incorporating sport with healthy eating."

Jonathan is in year 6 at St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Prenton, his dad is 80's Manchester United star Peter Davenport.  Jonathan told Heart he's been looking forward to the special dinners: "I like to try something different and it's great to see what other people eat around the world."
