Teenager dies after Liverpool attack

18 year old Neil Murphy dies in hospital after incident on Saturday (5th)

Merseyside Police say a man jumped out of a red Audi, before chasing 18 year old Neil Murphy through the streets of Bootle.

He was in a coma but died in hospital last night.

Two men, aged 22 and 23 from the Netherton area, are being questioned on suspicion of murder.

Detective Inspector David Keegan said: "This was a vicious and sustained attack on a young man, who has needlessly lost his life.

"I am convinced that many people in the area will have either witnessed these two men being chased or will have seen the victim being assaulted.

"The area is a mixture of houses and busy shops in nearby Glovers Lane and Marion Square.

"Maybe you were doing a bit of shopping and saw two young men, one chasing after another, both wearing shorts or a red Audi car driven fast? Every piece of information, no matter how small, may prove vital to our enquiry and we would urge you to come forward and contact officers."

Anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information about this attack is asked to contact Copy Lane CID on 0151 777 3135/3161 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
