Flintshire soldier laid to rest

Around 500 people have filled a church in Ysceifiog near Holywell for the funeral of Lance Corporal Alan Cochran.

The 23 year old from Flintshire was shot two weeks ago in Afghanistan and died alongside Corporal Terry Webster from Chester who was laid to rest on Tuesday.

Both served with 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment.

His commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Hadfield, said:

"A committed career soldier Alan loved the Army and his friends within it, and was probably the most selfless of men, always looking out for others and helping them to give their best.

"His friends described him as having a heart of gold, being totally unselfish, and having the worst dress sense in the battalion."

During the service his best friend Nino paid tribute.

He said:

"Alan shined through right until the end and he tried his best to save his pals.

"He died a hero to his country, his family and to all his friends and he will be missed by us all."
