School bus consultation comes to an end

A three month consultation on plans to change the way free school buses work in Wrexham comes to an end on Friday.

Under the Council plans children would only get free travel to their nearest suitable school.

But families in Chirk are concerned because their nearest school is not Ysgol Dinas Bran in Llangollen, which is the one most children attend.

Mum Lynn Hughes from Chirk says it will mean parents sending their kids to another school or providing their own transport.

She said:

"I myself will keep the children in Dinas Bran and I will probably take them but what about those parents who can't afford it or can't drive?  It's discrimination then isn't it?

"I'm hoping the council will see sense and leave school transport as it is."

John Davies, Chief Learning and Achievement Officer, said:

"Officers will review all the comments and statements received during the consultation period and they will then compile a report for Executive Board to consider on 13th April."
