RMT Confirms More Northern Rail Strikes

The RMT union has announced a series of fresh strike action on Northern Rail services in the New Year.
There have already been 40 days of industrial action on Arriva Rail North services in a long running row over the role of guards on trains.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union on Arriva Rail North will now walk out on every Saturday in January. These dates are in addition to two days of action already planned for the next two Saturdays.
Arriva has asked the conciliation service ACAS to hold an independent inquiry to help resolve the dispute.
The RMT has called it a 'publicity stunt' by Arriva and says the company "continues to refuse to engage in serious and meaningful talks around the guard guarantee that could form the basis for a settlement. Instead it has carried out a publicity stunt this week by calling for an inquiry into the dispute."
