Girls on the Ball

17 August 2010, 06:00

An all-girl football team is thought to be the only one of its kind in North Devon.

Tarka Football Club has an Under-9 and Under-11 team made entirely of girls, who take on boys teams during local tournaments.

Although there are mixed teams around, lots of girls don't take up the opportunity.

Chair of the club Lisa Cohen said: "We were in a tournament just last week and I think we only saw one girl playing in the whole tournament at the age group our girls are playing at."

It's thought it could be because girls don't get as involved in the sport at school.

Now, the club's looking for more members, and would like to see other girls' clubs around North Devon.  To find out more, call Lisa on 01271 883 626.
