Holiday Scam Hits North Devon

A North Devon man is warning kind-hearted people to beware after a scam plea for help almost lost him hundreds of pounds.

Roy Lucas from Braunton was emailed, apparently by a work colleague, saying she'd been burgled on holiday in Spain and had lost all her money.

The email asked Roy to urgently send one and a half thousand pounds so that she and her husband could fly home.  The email looked authentic and had a convincing address.

But fortunately Roy could check it out because  his colleague had not yet left for her holiday.

He's now sending all the details to the police.

Roy, of Braunton Museum, says it's disgusting that thieves should stoop so low.  And it's particularly mean because if a friend really is in trouble and can't make direct contact, their plea for help may be ignored.
