Woman's Fight For Life After Police Van Collision

A 28 year old woman is fighting for her life following collision with a marked police van in Bideford.

It happened  just after  7pm on Thursday March 6th  when  she was walking in New Road near Longbridge Wharf.

Police  say she was in collision with a marked  police Ford transit which was on a routine patrol  and travelling in the direction of Torrington.  The police driver was uninjured.

Initially she was taken to the North Devon District Hospital but later had to be  air lifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. 

Officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit have been carrying out a full investigation at the scene and the incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
