A gang of about 14 men had travelled to St Ives to confront a man in Shakespeare Road on January 10 last year, following a disagreement between two families.

But they turned on his 19-year-old nephew when he tried to diffuse the situation and kicked him to the ground. His mother lay over his body in an effort to protect him, but the gang continued the attack and she was also injured. The uncle was also assaulted.

Muhammed Nizan Hussain, 39, of Tennyson Avenue, St Ives, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and a charge of perverting the course of justice in relation to a false allegation and a statement he made to police following the incident.

Jabel Abdin, 24, and Jamil Abdin, 28, both of Romford Road, London, and Halim Uddin, 23, of Lonsdale Avenue, London, all denied violent disorder but were convicted at Huntingdon Crown Court on Tuesday (February 8) following a week-long trial.

All four were bailed to return to Huntingdon Crown Court for sentence on April 8.

Detective Constable Hollie Daines said: "This was a nasty attack on a young man in the middle of the day. His mother laid over his body in an effort to try to protect him but the gang continued the attack and she was also injured.

"This has been a lengthy investigation and we are pleased they have now been brought to justice. This kind of behaviour is not acceptable and will not be tolerated."
