A man remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition after being involved in a car crash and then attacked in Cambridge.

Cambridgeshire Police say the crash happened on Milton Road at around 5pm on Tuesday (13 December.)

The victim was in a sliver Mercedes van which was involved in a minor collision with a black Grand Cherokee Jeep.

The jeep, which was being driven by a woman, did not stop at the scene.

Shortly after the crash, it's believed the man was attacked.

Following the assault he knocked on the door of a house in Gilbert Road to ask for help.

He was then taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, where he remains.

Police are treating the attack as an isolated incident.

Detective Constable Ben Martin said: "This was a nasty attack and the victim is lucky not to have suffered more serious injuries.

I would appeal to anyone who has any information about the assault to contact police.

In particular I would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision or either vehicle prior to it."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Detective Constable Martin on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
