Dragon Boat Festival Cambridge 2014

Once again, we're going to be joining in the fun that is Dragon Boat racing on the River Cam, Fen Ditton, Cambridge on Saturday 6th September 2014 and we'd love you to get involved!

Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today – as well as the most fun! Up to 10 people paddle each 30’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course. No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit!

Gable Events has joined with East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices to bring you the tenth charity dragon boat festival to be staged on the River Cam in Cambridge. The Festival is open to everyone and over 40 crews are expected to battle it out over the 200m race course, watched by several hundred spectators. The Ditton Meadows location offers a superb venue for racing and a fabulous day is guaranteed with plenty of bankside family entertainment including funfair rides, children’s activities, inflatables and Chinese lion dancing plus bar and food stalls.

Standard entry includes:

  • Dragon boats, qualified helms and all racing equipment
  • At least 3 races per crew
  • Music and entertainment
  • Souvenir programme
  • Trophies for the top three crews, the best-placed mixed crew (minimum 5 ladies), the crew raising the most money for EACH and the ‘best dressed’ crew
  • Medals for the top three crews
  • Prize meal at Las Iguanas for the crew raising the most money for EACH.

About East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices

EACH supports families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. We provide care and support wherever the family wishes – in families’ own homes, in hospital or at one of our hospices in Milton, Ipswich, and Quidenham. We are a registered charity (no. 1069284) and this year need to raise £6 million in donations to deliver our services. This amounts to £16,000 a day, every day of the year.

EACH is hugely reliant on voluntary donations to continue to provide the services they do – these include short break care, specialist play, music therapy, sibling groups and bereavement counselling, as well as the all-important end of life care. In the words of one parent “I just want everyone to know how amazing EACH is and the amazing job they do – without them I just couldn’t cope. They are lifesavers.” To find out more, or for other ways you can help, visit www.each.org.uk or call 01223 205180
