At around 10pm on Sunday, 30th January, police received a report that a number of people wearing balaclavas, and armed with baseball bats and a firearm, went into an address along Stanley Street.
A man sustained a head injury, and jewellery, along with money, was reported as missing.
A 19-year-old Weymouth man was arrested and a firearm was also recovered. The arrested man has now been released on bail.
Detective Inspector Marcus Hester, of Weymouth CID, said:
“Investigations are ongoing and we would like to reassure the members of the public that this is a very unusual and isolated incident.
“Police are investigating all avenues, including whether the victim and offenders are known to each other.”
