Cyclist Injured On A338 Wessex Way

A 56 year old Hampshire woman is in a critical condition in hospital after suffering life threatening head injuries when she came of her bicycle on the A338 in Dorset.

Police say Lindsi Bluemel was cycling on the Wessex Way into Bournemouth on Sunday 23rd October 2011, at around 9.15am. She had just gone under the Springbourne flyover when she cycled over a 5 meter long UPV piece of plastic lying across the cycle lane.

Witnesses say she wobbled and the back wheel gave out causing her to fall and hit her head. She was taken to Poole General Hospital and is said to be stable. Her family have been notified.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said:

"She is an experienced cyclist who had her helmet stolen a few days ago and was not wearing a helmet at the time."

Witnesses and anyone with any information are being asked to contact PC 2133 Brehmer at Ferndown Traffic by dialling the non-emergency number 101.
