New Safety Measures At Wareham Station

Work to install new electric gates at the pedestrian crossing at Wareham station starts on Monday 8th February.

The pedestrain level crossing has been supervised by extra police every day after being identified as one of the most dangerous in the county last year. CCTV showed dozens of people a week were ignoring the red lights and crossing when trains were coming.

The new gates will be controlled by a guard so people will only be able to cross the tracks when it is safe. New palisade fencing will also be put up around the crossing site to provide a safe area for people to wait.

The work is expected to be finished in six to eight weeks, and discussions are continuing over the design of a safe, long-term solution.
