Roads In Dorset Could Be Busier This Week

The first of three major events happening in Dorset this week kicks off today (Wednesday 28 August).

The Great Dorset Steam Fair near Blandford Forum attracts 200 thousand visitors from all over the world.

Tomorrow (Thursday 29 August) the Bournemouth Air Festival gets underway.

On Friday, it's the start of the End of the Road Festival in north Dorset.

All three events finish on Sunday and police are warning there'll be lots of extra traffic across the county.

Superintendent Mick Rogers said: "It is inevitable that congestion will occur during this busy period and we are encouraging members of the public to take simple steps to make sure they get the most out of these great events.

"Plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys, listen for traffic announcements on the radio or check your route online before you travel. You should also take plenty of water to drink in the car if you find yourself waiting in traffic, especially in hot weather.

"We have been working closely with partners in preparation for the busy weekend to ensure everything runs smoothly and have additional resources and contingency plans in place.

"Members of the public should be particularly aware of the potential for Steam Fair traffic on the A354 and the Blandford ring-road from Wednesday 28 August until Sunday 1 September daily between 9am and 11am."
