10 year old killed in crash

A 10 year old girl's died after being hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing near a supermarket.

POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal road traffic collision in Stevenage on Tuesday, December 21.
 
Officers were called at just before 4pm to reports of a collision on Monkswood Way at the pedestrian crossing opposite Asda. A white Mercedes car and a pedestrian, a 10 year old girl from Stevenage, were in collision. The 10 year old girl was taken to hospital where she sadly died.
 
Police officers and the Ambulance service attended the scene and the serious nature of the incident meant that the road needed to be closed for just under three hours. This enabled a full investigation of the incident.
 
PC Robert Hauxwell is investigating and said: “There were a lot of vehicles in the area at the time and I would like to appeal to anyone who saw what happened to contact police. If you were travelling in the opposite direction heading towards town or if you were queuing to turn in Asda and saw anything which would assist our investigation please call. I would also like to hear from any other pedestrians in the area at the time.”

A 44 year old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released on police bail.
