Binman Injured By Firework

A binman's had to go to hospital after a firework exploded during a collection round in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

The East of England Ambulance Service were called to reports of an explosion on Nightingale Road at 7.50am on Friday 23 November 2012.

Ambulance crews from Hitchin, Letchworth and Luton attended the scene. Ambulance spokesman Gary Sanderson said: "It appears a firework exploded in the back of a refuse truck and struck one of the workers, he received slight burns to his hand and face."

The patient was taken to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage.
