PC Denies Killing Two Pedestrians
A police officer today (Monday May 9th) pleaded not guilty to killing two men in a road crash which happened when he was answering a 999 call.
Kerry Smith, 24, denied causing the death of Reda Lecheheb, 35, and Sidali Melal, 27, by dangerous driving on June 4 last year.
The men were on their way home from work just after midnight when they were struck by a police car in Leagrave Road, Luton.
Mr Smith, who has not been suspended from Bedfordshire police and continues to work, was granted bail by Judge Stephen Gullick when he appeared at St Albans crown court.
His trial date was set for September 5.
