Siege: Man Charged

Bedfordshire Police have charged a 42 year old man over a five-hour siege that saw part of Leighton Buzzard cordoned off.

Armed officers were called out to Bridge Street, Leighton Buzzard at 5pm on Tuesday 5 February 2013 because of concerns for a man inside a flat above a shop, who was believed to have a gun.

Police negotiators spent the next five hours talking to the man.

Marc McLees, from Bridge Street, who celebrated his 42nd birthday on Tuesday 5 February 2013, has been charged with one count of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He has also been charged with one count of communicating false information about a bomb hoax.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Luton Magistrates Court on Thursday 7 February.
