Ormiston Families provides assessment and support by skilled professionals for children and young people who are experiencing emerging mental health and emotional problems. Make Some Noise will help increase specialist Art Therapist hours and provide specialist art materials, such as sensory equipment designed for children with learning difficulties to help them engage and communicate.

Traditional counselling methods such as one-to-one verbal counselling are not very effective with children younger than 6, but art therapy and role play can be immensely beneficial.

This young girl is one of those who has benefited immensely from Ormiston Families’ services. Her mother found her daughter’s behaviour difficult and talked as if there was something “wrong with her”. Through sessions with mother and daughter it transpired there were factors that effected both their moods, including bereavement and separation of the parents. Over time, with sessions at Ormiston, the girl’s outbursts became less frequent and the mother came to better understand her daughter and anticipate her needs.
