Colchester: Rail Station Attacker Jailed
A man who threw a brick at a victim's head forcing him to fall onto a train track in Colchester has been jailed indefinitely.
Ian Tomlinson, 24, of no fixed address, carried out three attacks on men at Colchester, Ipswich and Diss and train stations over a ten-day period in June last year.
On one occasion Tomlinson followed his victim off the train at Colchester shortly after midnight.
As the man waited on the platform, Tomlinson threw a brick at his head from close range.
The victim fell onto the tracks where he lay unconscious and motionless on the high-speed line.
As he lay there, Tomlinson climbed onto the track and stole money from him, British Transport Police (BTP) said.
Tomlinson had admitted three counts of robbery and one of theft of a motorcycle.
At Ipswich Crown Court he was jailed indefinitely as he is considered a danger to the public, BTP said. He must serve at least five years.
A man has been jailed for four years and banned from driving for five years after a fatal crash in Weeley Heath.
"Have fun in a safe environment" is Essex Police's message to festival-goers this year as Chelmsford gears up for the V Festival.
