Essex: Search For The County's Best Teachers

18 June 2013, 00:00

The best teachers in Essex are going to be recognised with the launch of the first ever Essex Teaching Awards.

It is being set up by the County Council which says teachers have "a considerable influence on some of the biggest decisions we will ever make."

The awards are aimed to "celebrate the inspirational work and achievements of the teaching community."

Voting is due to open on 2 September, with the ceremony in January 2014.

Councillor Ray Gooding, the cabinet member for Education and Lifelong Learning, told Heart teachers are unsung heroes: "We can all remember the teachers who made a difference to us.

"In terms of making sure people become engaged in education, the sort of inspiration teachers give to people is absolutely the basis of everything they do.

"We all see that front of house service that they do, but don't realise the preparation and the work that goes on to put that act on everyday and I think we need to applaud them for that."
