An investigation's started after a van crashed into a house in Harlow shortly after being asked to stop for police.

Officers signalled for the white Mercedes van to pull over in Potter Street in the early hours of Tuesday but it failed to do so.

Shortly after, the van driver lost control and the vehicle somersaulted before hitting a house in Harlow Common Road and crashing into the owner's car.

The two men in the van were taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.

A 26 year old suffered minor injuries and the other man, aged 37, has a suspected fractured neck. Both men, from the Harlow area, have been arrested and bailed until March on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.

The elderly man living at the property was shocked but fortunately uninjured and police have now referred the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Anyone who saw the crash, or the moments leading up to it, are asked to contact Ps Dave Martin at the road policing unit at Chigwell on 0300 333 4444.
