M11 In Essex Re-opens After Fatal Crash

The M11 in Essex has re-opened after a crash which left two people dead and six seriously hurt.

The accident, between a lorry and a coach, happened on the southbound carriageway between Stansted and Saffron Walden shortly before 2.30am on Saturday.

The driver and an elderly passenger in the coach both died in the crash.

The injured were taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Princess Alexandra in Harlow and Addenbrookes in Cambridge.

The motorway was shut for more than 12 hours. Police have named the lorry driver as 53-year-old Zdzislaw Piorko, from Maidstone in Kent. The passenger who died was Delia Walker, 63, from Pontefract in Yorkshire.

Essex Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash and are appealing for witnesses to contact the roads them on 0300 333 4444.
