A pensioner's been stamped on and kicked as she confronted an intruder during a burglary in Southend.

She was woken by noises in her kitchen on Prince Avenue in the early hours of Monday 29 July. When she went to see what was happening she was assaulted and knocked unconscious.

She has told police she thinks she heard several people searching rooms in the upstairs of her home before she lost consciousness.

When she came round at around 4am she pressed a panic alarm to get help but is not sure how long she was out for.

She was then taken to Southend General Hospital for treatment.

Several items were taken during the burglary including a handbag, jewellery and bank cards.

Two boys aged 15 and a man aged 20, all from the Southend area, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and were bailed until September 17 pending further enquiries.
