Three more people have been arrested over the murder of a man in Southend.

Two men were found stabbed inside a flat on St Ann's Road on Wednesday night. One man - a 24 year-old from the Dagenham area - was declared dead at the scene while the other was taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition.

A 22 year-old man from Southend was arrested in connection with the attack yesterday evening. Then, in the early hours of this morning police arrested another three men - a 19 year-old from Southwark, a 17 year-old from Basildon, and another 17 year-old who did not give address.

Officers say they are still looking for anyone who saw a group of men running from the area.

Southend's District Commander, Chief Inspector Simon Anslow, said: "I would like to express my condolences to the family of the man who has died and the injured man who is in hospital."

"Although we are in the early stages of the investigation and are keeping an open mind as to the motive and what happened, we do not believe this to be a random attack. Residents should not have concerns about being safe out and about in Southend or whilst they are at home.

"I would urge anyone who has information that can help us to speak to us. Please contact 101 or leave information anonymously via Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111."

A postmortem examination is due to be carried out today and cordon remains in place in St Ann's Road as forensic investigations continue.
