Two Remanded Over Tilbury Immigrants

Two lorry drivers have been remanded in custody after the death of a man found in a container at Tilbury docks last weekend.

The men, both from Northern Ireland, were arrested after 35 Afghan immigrants, including 13 children, were found last Saturday (16th August).

Amongst them was a baby, just 1-year-old.

All were distressed and suffering from dehydration.

A man had died by the time the group were discovered.

34-year-olds Stephen McLaughlin and Timothy Murphy of Londonderry are accused of helping immigrants illegally enter the UK.

Both are due at Basildon Crown Court in November.
