Dragon Boat Festival 2014

Once again, were going to be joining in the fun on Sunday June 22nd at the Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival on Willen Lake, and we'd love you to get involved!

Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today – as well as the most fun! Up to 16 people paddle each 40’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course. No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit!

Heart and Gable Events has joined with Age UK Milton Keynes to bring you the 13th spectacular Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival. The Festival is open to everyone and up to 60 crews are expected to battle it out over the 200m race course, watched by several thousand spectators. Willen Lake offers a superb venue for racing and a fabulous day is guaranteed with bankside entertainment, music, food and fun activities for all the family.

Racing gets underway around 10am, so make sure you bring the family and a picnic, and enjoy a fun day out at Willen lake!

Age UK Milton Keynes...

Age UK Milton Keynes is a local independent charity that each year provides services and direct support to over 12,000 people in later life throughout the borough of Milton Keynes. All their services are designed to make a real and positive difference to the wellbeing and quality of life of our local older people.

There are currently more than 40,000 people over the age of 60 in Milton Keynes. Nationally this group is expected to increase over the next 15 years by 32%, but in Milton Keynes it is expected to increase by 70%. By supporting Age UK Milton Keynes now you are helping to make a difference to the future of all older people in Milton Keynes.

Money raised in Milton Keynes stays in Milton Keynes. And together with the many practical services they provide, they also offer free, independent and confidential advice sessions at a number of localities across Milton Keynes. This is where they can help to sort out benefits and money worries as well as answer questions on countless other aspects of later life. Their Advocacy Service helps isolated and unsupported older people represent their own interests, helping to resolve financial worries, housing difficulties, consumer issues, health care problems and more. They need to raise £70,000 to help fund these two services.
