Man beaten up by gang in unprovoked attack

Police are hunting four men who attacked a man in the centre of Cheltenham.

The victim was kicked and punched in what officers say was an unprovoked attack. It happened at around 3am on Oriel Road.

He suffered bruising to the head and body and was taken to Cheltenham General Hospital as a precaution, but has since been released.

The offenders came from the area of the Playhouse and ran off in the direction of the Town Hall.

The first offender is described as a white man, around 22 years-old, 5ft 10inches tall with an average build and dark tight curly hair.  He was wearing black trousers or dark jeans, a black t-shirt with horizontal thin white stripes.

The second offender is described as a white man early twenties, around 5ft 11inches tall wearing dark clothing.  He was wearing brown CAT shoes or boots and possibly a dark coloured coat.

The third and fourth offenders are both described as white men, aged in their early twenties with dark clothing.  One of them had a dark t-shirt with white hoops on.

Detective Inspector Bob Heywood says:

“This was an unprovoked attack on an innocent man after he had finished work.
“We would urge anyone who has any information about who is responsible to contact us.”
