Celebs Gather To Remember Amy Winehouse

Barbara Windsor and Alexandra Burke were some of the celebrities who gathered in central London last night (Tuesday 18th November) for the third annual Amy Winehouse Foundation Ball.

The event at the Landmark Hotel paid tribute to the singer who died in 2011 as well as raising money to educate young people about drugs and alcohol misuse

Mitch Winehouse arrived at the ball wearing a waistcoat with a picture of his late daughter on the back.

He said: "This has been a special year. We have donated more money than ever and the Resilience Programme and Amy's Yard are going from strength to strength, making a real difference to so many lives in Amy's name.

"We are so grateful to all those who have contributed to this ball. By buying tables, bidding at the auction and showing support, they are giving young people opportunities. It is wonderful to show everyone where the money goes and for them to meet the fantastic young people they are supporting."

The auction was hosted by TV news anchor Jon Snow, whose colourful ties were among the lots. Guests also had the chance to bid for guitars signed by One Direction and Duran Duran.

Actress Windsor personally auctioned off a tour of the EastEnders set by the show's stars, which went for £5,500. A tour of the Coronation Street set did less well, raising £2,000.

Musicians who have participated in the Amy's Yard programme, which provides professional studio facilities and support to talented young people, performed at the ball.

The Amy Winehouse Foundation works to educate young people about drug and alcohol misuse. George Mitchell, 22, told how the foundation's Resilience Programme has trained him to share his experience of alcohol abuse with secondary school students.

The foundation will have donated more than £1 million to different projects both in the UK and abroad by the end of this year.
