Topshop is to open its second largest store in the world in New York later this year.

The  Manhattan store will be on Fifth Avenue, next to the Rockefeller Centre.

But at 40,000 sq feet, it will still be less than half the size of the company's flagship store on the corner of Oxford Street and Regent Street in London's West End.

Four other new stores will als open in San Diego, Washington, Houston and Atlanta.

Sir Philip Green said:"I am very excited about Fifth Avenue, having looked for a location there for many years, and I believe this corner is both hugely prominent and perfectly located for our brands.

"I am also delighted to be entering new markets for the first time in the other great cities."

International expansion of the two brands is continuing, with 80 openings in 13 countries last year including Australia, Brazil and Hong Kong.

Openings planned for the next six months include Russia, Turkey and Vietnam.
