Money from Hospital Parking Jumps

The amount of money made from parking at Milton Keynes hospital has nearly DOUBLED in two years.

Figures obtained by Heart show 96-thousand pounds was made in 2007-to-8, and by 2009-to-10 it was just under 170-thousand.

Bob Heavisides, Director of Facilities at Milton Keynes Hospital, told Heart: "Patients can struggle to park at many hospitals, but in Milton Keynes we have built a £7.5million multi-storey car park to make sure we have enough spaces on the site. We have also achieved the Park Mark Award for Safer Parking.

"We offer free parking to patients who need to attend the hospital regularly, including cancer and renal patients. We also offer free parking for disabled patients and visitors. Discounted weekly passes are available to out-patients and relatives who are visiting regularly.

"We believe this system makes our charges fair for patients, and any surplus is invested directly into patient care."
