Wigan fire: Boy, 4, dies from injuries after 'devastating' blaze which also killed man

A four-year-old boy has died from his injuries in hospital after a house fire in Wigan.

A 45-year-old man died on Sunday after the blaze on Warrington Road at 2.30am.

The boy, who suffered serious injuries, was taken to hospital but Greater Manchester Police confirmed his death today.

Officers do not believe the causes of the fire were suspicious, police added.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue are continuing to investigate what started the blaze.

Detective Inspector Lee Gridley said: "This is a devastating incident and all of our thoughts are with the family of this young boy, who had his entire life ahead of him.

"I hope people will join us in sending their absolute best wishes to all those involved in this incident, as they begin their journey in the healing process."

The detective added the "heartbreaking news" of the deaths was a "tragedy" for the Wigan community.

He also urged anyone who has any information regarding the fire to get in touch with police.
