Norfolk Broads: Tests Being Done on Bodies Found
Tests are being carried out today to find out how two people, discovered in the Norfolk Broads near Wroxham on Sunday, died.
The bodies of a man and a woman, both thought to be in their 40s and believed to be from the Surrey area, were discovered in water yesterday afternoon by divers between Salhouse Broad and Wroxham Broad after an extensive search was carried out at the location.
Home Office post mortems began this morning (Monday 3 September 2012) at the James Paget Hospital and a further update will be released later on this afternoon.
The search was instigated following a report from a local boatyard at 5pm on Saturday 1 September, that a holiday hire boat had not been returned as arranged at the end of the week.
The boat was quickly located and a 13 year old girl was found to be on board alone. She is currently being supported by family members.
The river was re-opened to boating traffic last night but a seal remains where the boat was discovered. The boat continues to be examined.
Detective Superintendent Jes Fry, of the joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team, who is overseeing the investigation, said: “We continue to investigate this tragic event. Our main consideration is the welfare of the 13 year girl and whilst I cannot speculate on the circumstances surrounding the deaths before I have received the results of the post mortems, initial investigations confirm that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”
Tributes have been paid to a man who died during an industrial incident at Besthorpe, near Attleborough, last Monday.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the death of a young woman in Great Yarmouth.
Police are appealing for witnesses and asking communities to be vigilant after six burglaries in the west of the county.
